Cyclist Magazine Issue #27$12.95
From the editor,
It’s that time of year when we’re really starting to get into the groove – at least when it comes to harnessing our ability to burn the midnight oil in search of that next European win (by an Aussie, that is). It may have taken a touch longer than Caleb Ewan and his Orica-Scott team-mates had hoped, but the dogged young sprinter finally ticked his Giro d’Italia victory box on stage seven of this year’s race. Better still, he did it against some of the fastest finishers in the pro peloton. It was a wild sprint that went down to the absolute wire – and that’s why we’ve got the work of Marcus Enno on show capturing the occasion in our Through the Lens spread. What a moment!
But the wheels keep on spinning, and by the time this issue reaches the newsstand we’ll be frantically making our final picks for Le Tour (c’mon, Richie!) while steadily ramping up for our post-Tour issue. It’s a huge task to get a magazine off to the press just days after the race, but it pales in comparison to what goes into creating one of the world’s biggest sporting spectacles, year after year. We delve into the mechanics of the Tour de France to find out just what makes this race so special.
Away from the crowds, alpine passes, finish line barriers and sprint lines, however, is where we find our special place. Gloucester, on the Mid North Coast of NSW, is a new favourite for the team at Cyclist. You’ll find that our latest Big Ride has a similar theme to our previous issue, but we won’t give it away just yet. That’s for you to discover – as returning Big Rider, Jack Lynch, reveals.
